Bilkent Malatya K12 Campus

2021 – construction in progress

Initial principle of settlement of Bilkent Malatya K-12 Campus is a ring route that surrounds all programs and maintains accessibility. Thus site is divided into two distinctive zones as inner and outer ring. In the outer ring there are technical, support and security programs while in the inner ring there are educational facilities and related landscape units in particular so that students can inhabit a comfortable and peaceful environment away from the traffic.

Secondly, design strategy is based on compositional network of spaces.  Creating a comprehensive pattern by gathering different units in terms of their relations with each other, encounters both architectural and contextual requirements. While this strategy can facilitate space articulation with different scales and future extensions, it also makes harmonic settlement of blocks accordingly to the slope of site possible. Along with buildings taking landscape as a part of the spatial pattern, project with its site creates a “relief-composition”.

All classrooms are oriented to the south appropriately with Malatya climate to take maximum advantage of both winter and summer sun. In winter season sun enters into south oriented classrooms while in summer due to façade strategies all classrooms are protected from the intense light of sun.
