Eflatunpınar Visitor Center

2020

Historical remnants such as monumental tombs, ancient pools and inns around ancient settlements are aesthetically powerful as they become integrated with nature. Taking into consideration of this relationship between history and nature, both of our architectural and landscape project proposals involve preserving the ancient structure authentically rather than destructive structural interventions.

Due to this particular approach it is proposed to remove banks, bridges, fences, sheds, unregulated roads and a number of different objects that are stranger to the existing atmosphere and installed in different periods of time irrelevantly. Parking area for tourist bus and cars is being situated to the main road, as remote as possible from archaeological area. The journey through fields and projected promenade are considered as a ritual where the visitors experience both the landscape and history intertwined with each other. Proposed route passing through visitor centres ends in Hittite Water Monument and facing archaeological area. Visitor centre is designed to regulate the relationship between monument and visitor. It is a pavilion more than a building that frames the monument including only necessary amount of closed area of services, information board, kiosk and gathering area. Both for promenade and pavilion, sustainable, long-lasting and low cost materials are chosen.
