P House

2020

P House is located in Kaş, on a land that is fairly higher from sea level, opens up to the Mediterranean Sea, surrounded by dense vegetation consisting of shrubs, bushes and small trees. Project site is a sloping and narrow rectangular of 16×40 meters, after setback distances from regulations were applied it decreases to 10×33 meters. In addition given ratios of floor and building areas was another input of the project. Thus the critical design problem was to solve how to settle within these physical restraints, while considering the slope of the site, opening to the landscape and requests of the client.

Project consists of five “boxes”; each refers to a different function and lines up both horizontally and vertically throughout the narrow and sloping site. Terraces on every level meet with these boxes which also become terraces themselves to the spaces above, and open up to the magnificent view of Mediterranean. In that sense, P House project is a semi-open building that open areas cover space and create alternatives as much as closed areas.  Tectonic and spatial approaches refer to the vernacular architecture of Mediterranean with terra-cotta floors, thick whitewashed walls, decorative and functional niches in these walls, lightweight canopies on terraces.
