Prefabricated Modular Projects

2010 - 2023

For more than ten years now, we’ve been carried out studies on prefabricated modular projects with different typologies -schools, dormitories, hospitals, residences and hotels-, and at different scales and places.

In 2010, Teğet developed a unique site plan for a 555-key housing project on a west-facing slope in the north of İzmir. The reinforced concrete plinth, which was precisely positioned on the land with an elevation difference of more than 75 meters between its two ends, housed the vehicle road and car parks. The residences were lined up as row houses on both sides of the street on the upper level.

The light gauge steel carcass of 555 houses was produced in 4 main typologies at the Akkon factory in Istanbul, Çatalca. Each profile was numbered and assembled in the field. 30% of the construction works of this project, which is the largest light steel housing complex in Europe, were completed off-site and 70% on-site. Light gauge steel systems are amongst the ideal choice of material for earthquake resistance construction thanks to its physical attributes: light-weight, strong, durable, high damage tolerant and construction-friendly metal.

Between 2016-18, Teğet, with Consera, developed a modular construction-based strategy to close the dormitory deficit in the country. In the first stage, the administrations of 4 universities in the Aegean region were contacted; briefs for dormitory needs were received; suitable areas within the campus boundaries were determined. Room types and block types that can be applied to all 4 campuses have been developed. A model production of a room type was carried out in the factory.

A 3X6 meter student room module is ideal for modularization. 2 Modules can be transported by a truck. Corridor floor modules are hanged between them. Thus, the off-site construction rate can reach up to 80% in suitable topographies. All interior furnishings and mechanical and electrical installations of the dormitory module are completed at the factory.

During Pandemic in year 2020, Teğet developed with Consera and Promedis, a model for modular hospitals for Least Developed Countries in Africa and Asia. In the first stage, the hospital program was analyzed in terms of suitability for modularization. Diverse strategies were studied for outpatient clinics and patient rooms, and for care and operation units.

Growth methods were studied so that hospitals with 50 and 100 beds could expand to 75 and 150 beds. Off-site rates, which reached 70% in polyclinics and patient rooms, were 40-50 in intensive care and operation areas.

In 2019, Teğet is asked to develop a model of modular solutions for Reconstruction of Schools in Istanbul under High Seismic Risk. There were around 100 schools to be worked on. For the model, three locations were chosen representing changing program, land geometry and topography.

It was determined how many trucks a classroom unit, a classroom block, an atrium and ultimately the planned school for each combination could be transported from the factory to the field. In this solution, off-site construction works were estimated at 50% and on-site works at 50%.
