Haliç Shipyards (TERSANE) is located at the coast of Golden Horn, İstanbul. Its history dates back to Byzantine Period and has been used actively during the Ottoman Period as military and civil shipyards. Camialtı and Taşkızak shipyards were one of the biggest in Mediterranean Sea for many years. Shipyards were active until 2001 when they moved to new industrial sites at the periphery of Istanbul.

The site Haliç Tersane is located along Haliç has been used as a place for shipmaking since Byzantine periods. During Ottoman Empire it remained and grew as a monumental site within the city giving a unique silhouette of monumental hangars, slipways and “eye”s. The royal and military ships on the tame waters of Golden Horn endorsed its characteristic face. Haliç dockyards were one of the biggest in the Mediterranean geography in competition with Arsenale of Venice and Barcelona. It has been a monumental fabric within the city throughout its history.

The position of Tersane at the heart of the city center and at the coastline overlooking the historical peninsula gives strength to the concept. The visionaire of the Project is being Open to the visitors, to citizens, and to world. It shall be approached as a site that will enhance the urban quality of İstanbul, and enhance the city culture with its industrial heritage site.

Tersane is not as a campus but an enmeshed part of the city. The program mix shall be responding accordingly, with a variety of programs enhancing an urban life throughout the site. It is open as an urban park for all and as high end retail, an incubator for artisans and an exclusive hotel. It bears all the richness and mixture of part of the city.
